Institute

The Institute of Historical Musicology (IHM) stands at the centre of the interdisciplinary research of musicology at the University of Music and Dance Cologne. The Institute was founded in 2012 and connects all musicological research brought about by the three locations of the University of Music and Dance, namely Cologne, Aachen and Wuppertal connecting all members and professors. The projects and publications cover a wide range of musicological disciplines –a special emphasis though is put on opera, gender studies, popular music, cultural studies and an exploration of approaches between theoretical and practical music.

With its 20 PhD students working on doctoral degrees and a Master studies programme, the Institute offers an international stepping stone and forum for the next generation of musicological researchers.
